Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! reimagines the former Tower of Terror drop shaft as a rescue mission set inside the Collector's fortress. Guests join Rocket in a chaotic bid to free the other Guardians, riding an elevator that drops and rises in randomized patterns synced to a rotating soundtrack of licensed rock tracks. The queue winds through the Collector's gallery of oddities, dense with sci-fi set dressing, before guests board the vehicle for a sequence that never plays quite the same way twice.

One of DCA's best rides, full stop — the randomized drop sequence and rock soundtrack keep repeat rides genuinely fresh, and the Collector's-fortress queue is some of the densest theming in the park. Worth prioritizing with Lightning Lane on any visit. Fans of the original Tower of Terror may feel a pang of nostalgia, but this reimagining stands entirely on its own.

History
The attraction opened in 2017, converting the building that had housed Twilight Zone Tower of Terror since 2004 — the drop-shaft hardware was reused, but the story, queue, and soundtrack were entirely rebuilt around the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise ahead of Avengers Campus's 2021 opening.
