Overview
Hollywood Studios is now the only place in the United States to ride an actual Twilight Zone–themed Tower of Terror — the Disney California Adventure version closed in 2017 and became Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, leaving this 1994 original as the sole survivor of what was once a two-park format. The drop sequence itself is randomized by computer, so the exact combination of ascents and falls changes ride to ride, and the elaborate story-driven queue through the Hollywood Tower Hotel does real work before the elevator doors even close.

Don't rush the queue and pre-show to get to the drop faster — they're doing legitimate storytelling work, not just filling time. Single rider line meaningfully shortens the wait. Ride it more than once if the day allows; the randomized sequence means back-to-back rides can genuinely feel different. Guests who dislike drops should skip this one entirely — there's no soft version of it.

History
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened at Hollywood Studios on July 22, 1994, and has been one of the park's defining attractions for over 30 years. The original drop sequence was a single drop; a randomized multi-drop system was added later, significantly increasing unpredictability and replayability. A version at Disney California Adventure ran from 2004 to 2017 before being rethemed to Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout — the Hollywood Studios installation remains the only Twilight Zone–themed version in the United States.
