Dueling Dragons was Islands of Adventure's original Lost Continent centerpiece: two interlocking B&M inverted coasters, Fire and Ice, launched from twin queues and sent along intertwined tracks engineered to bring the trains within close range of each other at speed. Riders picked a side not knowing exactly how the other coaster's timing would line up, which was part of the appeal — every ride felt slightly different depending on the paired train.

Dueling Dragons opened with Islands of Adventure in 1999 as one of the park's signature thrill rides. In 2010 it was rethemed into Dragon Challenge for the first Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion, keeping the same track layout under new theming and character.
