Overview
Dragon Challenge was the Wizarding World of Harry Potter's retheme of the original Dueling Dragons coasters, recast as Hungarian Horntail and Chinese Fireball dragons guarding the Triwizard Tournament. Riders chose a track; the two trains left together and were timed to pass close to each other at several points, including a near-miss as both swept past inverted. The Hogsmeade queue wound through Triwizard Tournament staging areas before splitting riders onto their chosen dragon.

Dragon Challenge is remembered as one of the most intense inverted coaster experiences Universal ever built, and its near-miss engineering was a genuine one-of-a-kind thrill rarely replicated elsewhere. Its closure stung longtime fans, but Hagrid's — built on the same ground — is widely regarded as a more than worthy successor. A fondly remembered ride whose spirit lives on nearby rather than being simply erased.

History
Dragon Challenge opened in 2010 as part of the first Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion, replacing the original Dueling Dragons theming with a Triwizard Tournament story. It closed in September 2017 to make way for Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, which opened on the same footprint in 2019.

- Dragon Challenge's two tracks (Chinese Fireball and Hungarian Horntail) were inverted B&M coasters engineered so the trains appeared to nearly collide mid-air at two points on the course
