Overview
The original Journey Into Imagination was a whimsical dark ride through the mind's creative process, guided by the purple dragon Figment and his eccentric host, Dreamfinder, aboard an airship called the Dream Catcher. It moved through scenes celebrating art, music, literature, and invention before ending in the Image Works, an interactive playground of sound and light exhibits that let guests linger well past the ride itself.

It opened in March 1983 and closed in October 1998, a year before Disney replaced both the ride and its host characters with the more sensory-lab-focused Journey Into YOUR Imagination — a version that removed Dreamfinder and minimized Figment, a decision that proved deeply unpopular with guests.
