Overview
Disney introduced Expedition Everest's Yeti as the largest Audio-Animatronic it had ever built, and for years now it's mostly run in a strobe-lit static pose rather than the full animated sequence it was designed for — a structural issue that's become as well-known among coaster fans as the ride itself. None of that undercuts the actual coaster: a forward climb through Himalayan foothills gives way to broken track and a genuinely disorienting high-speed reversal into darkness, backed by a queue dressed as a Himalayan village.

Ride early or late — its single rider line ended in September 2026, so standby and Lightning Lane are the ways in. The queue alone is worth walking slowly through even with Lightning Lane in hand. Go in knowing the Yeti's static mode is a real disappointment relative to what was promised at opening, not an exaggeration by enthusiasts, but it doesn't sink the ride.

History
Expedition Everest opened in 2006. At opening it was reported as the most expensive roller coaster ever built, costing an estimated $100 million. Disney introduced its Yeti as the largest and most complex Audio-Animatronic it had built, but the figure has spent most of the ride's life standing still under a strobe light because of mechanical problems. At D23 in August 2026, Disney announced it will fix the Yeti, without giving a date.
