Overview
Maelstrom was a boat ride through the Norway pavilion in World Showcase, sending guests past trolls, longships, and a stormy backward plunge before docking to watch a short film about Norwegian life and landscapes. It was one of the few ride attractions in World Showcase, which is otherwise dominated by films, shops, and restaurants.

History
It opened in 1988 as part of the Norway pavilion and closed abruptly in 2014, with Disney announcing the change only shortly before the final ride. It was replaced in 2016 by Frozen Ever After, using much of the same boat-ride infrastructure re-themed around the film.
