Overview

It's Tough to Be a Bug! was a 4D theater show in a Bug's Land starring Flik from A Bug's Life, presented as an insect-perspective show-within-a-show. In-theater effects — seat pokes, water sprays, and a simulated stink bug spray — synced with the film to startle and delight audiences, sharing its concept and much of its content with the Animal Kingdom version inside the Tree of Life.

A fun, gimmicky 4D show that punched above its modest footprint thanks to genuinely well-timed physical effects. Losing it here wasn't about the show itself — a Bug's Land's entire footprint was needed for Avengers Campus, and this was one of several casualties of that expansion. The Animal Kingdom version outlasted it by nearly seven years before closing in 2025.

History

The show opened with Disney California Adventure's debut in 2001. It closed permanently on March 19, 2018, as a Bug's Land was cleared to make way for Avengers Campus, which opened in 2021.
