Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

Disneyland Park · Fantasyland

Overview

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride puts guests behind the wheel of Mr. J. Thaddeus Toad's motorcar for a chaotic evening drive that veers through Toad Hall, out into the streets of London, and into a string of near-misses that escalate into the ride's famously mischievous finale. The pacing is fast and jerky by classic-dark-ride standards, with the vehicle appearing to crash through obstacles rather than smoothly gliding past them, and the tone stays comedic and slightly anarchic throughout.

ParksLog Verdict

A genuine opening-day survivor that trades storytelling coherence for comedic chaos — the appeal is in its old-fashioned crash-and-careen pacing rather than any narrative arc. Short enough to work into any Fantasyland loop, and worth riding at least once for Disneyland history alone.

History

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride opened as part of Disneyland's original 1955 lineup, based on the Mr. Toad segment of Disney's 1949 package film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, itself adapted from Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows. The current version of the ride dates to a 1983 refresh. Unlike its Magic Kingdom counterpart in Florida, which closed in 1998 and was replaced by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Disneyland's original Mr. Toad's Wild Ride has never closed.

Fun Facts

  • Disneyland's version never closed — only the Magic Kingdom (Florida) version of the ride closed, in 1998, to make way for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
  • The ride is based on the Mr. Toad segment of Disney's 1949 film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, itself adapted from The Wind in the Willows.
