History
The attraction opened July 4, 1956 as Indian War Canoes, part of Frontierland's original Indian Village area, with Native American guides in each canoe. It closed with Indian Village in 1971 and reopened weeks later as Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes, themed to the Davy Crockett miniseries, with guides now wearing coonskin caps. It operates seasonally, generally on warmer, busier days, and closes at dusk or in poor weather.
