The randomness runs through the whole ride: the opening, middle and final segments are picked at random, so two consecutive rides rarely play out the same way. This 2011 version replaced the original Star Tours, which had run since the park's 1989 opening, expanding the destination pool over the years to include sequel-trilogy locations.

Less narratively immersive than Rise of the Resistance, but far more worth riding twice in the same visit — the randomized combinations make repeat rides genuinely different rather than a formality. History
Star Tours – The Adventures Continue opened May 20, 2011, replacing the original Star Tours, which had operated at Hollywood Studios since 1989 as one of the park's founding attractions. The 2011 version introduced the randomized multi-destination format, 3D visuals, and expanded the destination pool to include prequel trilogy locations. Additional scenes were added over the years to incorporate sequel trilogy locations and characters.
